How One Choice Can Change Your Life
by Jacquie Wise
I recently came across this quote,
which resonates powerfully with me:
One tree can start a forest,
One smile can begin a friendship,
One hand can lift a soul,
One word can frame the goal,
One candle can wipe out darkness,
One laugh can conquer gloom,
One hope can raise our spirits,
And…one choice can change your life.
Founder, Simple Truths
It reminded me to share my thoughts with you: I’ve always seen life as very simple.
Every thing you do (or don’t do) starts with a choice: ‘Yes I will’ or ‘No, I won’t’.
Choices don’t only apply to choosing a meal on a menu, or selecting the place to go for your next vacation.
A relationship builds, or breaks down, because of a pile of little moments—one word, one look, that either draws us closer to someone or pushes us away.
Confidence is similarly built one choice at a time, the choice to try, or the choice to give up, opportunity by opportunity.
The simple choices of YES or NO apply to anything in life:
- attempting a new activity with courage
- finishing what you started
- changing your mind
- telling lies or cheating
- cultivating a friendship
- overcoming a fear
- pursuing a goal
- spending money (or saving)
- being aggressive
- being appropriately firm
- allowing yourself to be dominated
- being gloomy or cheerful
Yes, or no?
If we’re mindful that life is made up of a string of tiny little choices, we might make better choices, moment by moment, that will lead to more successful outcomes.
What choices have you made up to now that have led you to this point in your life?
What choices are you making now, that will change your future?
